Bring the museum to the classroom! These two programs offer you a chance to extend your learning outside of our walls while helping Virginia teachers meet S.O.L. requirements. Please contact the Outreach Coordinator for more details.

The Discovery Museum is offering a few Home School Outreach Programs!

Buried History:

This traveling trunk is filled with hands-on activities based on recent archeological discoveries at Charlottesville's Venable Lane/Foster Family homesite. Become an archeologist and learn more about the local free African-American community in the 19th century.
(Assists in meeting S.O.L. for English, History, and Social Science for grades K-4)

The Rockhound Project:

An interactive computer game that allows students from around the state to become geology sleuths. Entire classes participate in a contest to correctly identify certain rocks found in Virginia using clues posted by The Rockhound through the Virginia pen system and e-mail. This project happens in late spring.
(Assists in meeting S.O.L. for elementary Science and Computer/Technology)
