Notice of
Death
Mr. Hugh R. Rowe, Chief Emeritus of
the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company, died on February 7, 2000.
Mr. Rowe was a charter member of the AVFC, which was started in 1950. He served as Chief
from 1966 until 1982, and Treasurer from 1982 until present. Mr. Rowe was also currently
the Chaplain of the Rappahannock Volunteer Fireman's Association. He retired as Fire Chief
from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Training Center in Yorktown, Va.
The members of the State Fire Chiefs' Association of Virginia are saddened by this loss of
our colleague, and we offer our condolences to his family and friends.
