Text Box: The museum is a place of discovery. I recently witnessed two ladies touring our display titled The Great Depression. The elder of the two ladies spotted items that triggered her memory of her life during those years. With each revelation, she told the younger lady and anyone else willing to listen, something about growing up through those hard times. This started a conversation about people and events. They strolled throughout the exhibit sharing recollections long forgotten. They enjoyed the sights, insights, and memories of the afternoon. I also gained a new perspective on the Depression and its effects upon those who survived it.

When setting up The Great Depression, we searched for one item in particular. We wanted to display underwear made from a feed bag with the company logo still visible. No one knew where to find such an item. One visitor, upon hearing of this request, told her aunt’s favorite story. This aunt had a pair of bloomers with Red Dog (a grade of hog feed) printed across her backside. When one girl in school discovered this fact, she ran up behind her and lifted her skirt. The entire class was amused upon reading Red Dog in bold print. The aunt had earned a new nickname.

Come to the museum and enjoy the joys and pains of the past.
