Since its inception in 1986 in New York City, Shiny has been tracking an influential group of poetry and fiction innovators in a way that has made it a unique venue on the contemporary literary scene. The magazine's profile and following continue to grow. The anthology The Best American Poetry 2004 included six pieces by as many authors from Shiny 12, making Shiny the single biggest source for the 2004 volume. No. 13 includes work by Lydia Davis, John Ashbery, Rae Armantrout, Leslie Scalapino, Merrill Gilfillan, Bernadette Mayer, Ron Padgett, Paul Violi, Alan Bernheimer, Michael Gizzi, Geoffrey Young, Cole Swensen and many others, including a number of emerging talents.
