Michael Chitwood's poetry collections include Gospel Road Going (Tryon, 2002), The Weave Room (Chicago, 1998) and Whet (Ohio, 1995). His book of essays is Hitting Below the Bible Belt: Baptist Voodoo, Blood Kin, Grandma's Teeth and Other Stories from the South (Down Home, 1998). He lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

About Shenandoah:

Founded in 1950 by undergraduates, Shenandoah, with the enthusiastic support of Washington and Lee University, has grown through the efforts of subsequent editors  —  including Tom Wolfe, James Boatwright and Dabney Stuart — to become a literary quarterly of international significance. Under current editor R. T. Smith, Shenandoah publishes a wide range of original poetry, fiction and essays displaying formal accomplishment, passionate understanding and serious mischief. Contributors in the past two years include W. S.
