Marilyn Hacker, honoured this year by the American Academy of Arts & Letters, is the author of 10 books including Desesperanto (reviewed in the Autumn 2003 issue of Poetry London), Squares and Courtyards, Winter Numbers, and a verse novel, Love, Death and the Changing of the Seasons. She is also a translator of contemporary French poets, including Venus Khoury-Ghata whose collection, She Says, was published last year by Graywolf Press.
