My Highly Compressed ReviewIn a visual and intellectual feast, Richard Berg and GMT tackle Napoleonics for the first time in their brigade-level treatment of Napoleons last battles. The system emphasizes command structure and unit cohesion, but it leaves few battlefield anecdotes or potential die-roll modifiers unturned. Before you master the system, the complexities and exceptions of the rules and graphics can be maddening. Once mastered, the overall effect is almost delightful, relatively smooth, and eminently historical. The victory conditions are a little confining, but the four single-battle and two dual-battle scenarios offer significant replay value. Eminently suited for solitaire study. Note: The paragraph above was written with an eye towards publication in the Annual "Year in Review" issue of Fire & Movement magazine, and submitted to F&M, but I can't seem to find such an issue in the year subsequent to the publication of the original review. |
