Who Uses

Number of hexes occupied by unit

Extended Line

Non-Landwehr Infantry units of 6 or more SPs

 

2 (or 3 if unit has 11 or more SPs and wishes to extend to 3 hexes)

Optional

During Movement

Costs 1 MP to form

May not form into enemy ZOC

May not form into hex costing more than two MPs

Costs 1 MP to retract

Units may (attempt to) form squares

Extended Column

Non-artillery units of 6 or more SPs that are (a) using Strategic Movement; or (b) moving via Roads, Paths, Bridges, or Fords

2 (or 3 if unit has 11 or more SPs)

Mandatory

At start of Movement

 

May only voluntarily leave at beginning of unit’s activation

May not form square during movement or shock

If attacked, must leave at end of combat

Square

Non-D2, unrouted Infantry

During Movement or when shock-attacked by cavalry

May only form in clear terrain

If formed during movement, costs 2 MPs and may not be formed in enemy ZOC

If formed during Shock, requires die roll

Leaving square takes place of movement
