In sorting through the innumerable links to rescue organizations across the United States, we have given preference, where possible, to those organizations that are within reasonable driving distance of Central Virginia.

Aussie Rescue & Placement Hotline -- the Web site of the official rescue organization of the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA).


Basset Rescue of Old Dominion


Beagle Rescue, Education, and Welfare -- based in Northern Virginia, this organization serves the mid-Atlantic and New England states.


Boxer Rescue


Rescue Brittanys in Virginia (Brittany Spaniels)


Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief and Rescue -- a particularly well-done breed rescue Web site.


Chow Chow Welfare: Information and Adoption Center -- includes a good essay on what to do if you can't keep your Chow (or any type of dog for that matter).


Piedmont Collie Club -- this Collie rescue group has a particular focus on Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Doberman Assistance, Rescue, and Education, Inc. (DARE) -- this Doberman Pinscher rescue organization has a particular focus on Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.

Golden Retriever Rescue, Education, and Training


Greyhound Pets of America -- GPA is a non-profit national organization dedicated to finding good homes for retired racing greyhounds (Greyhounds generally retire between the ages of 3 to 5 and have a natural lifespan of 12 years or more).


SNIP's Greyhound Placements -- located in Green County, SNIPs (the "Spay-Neuter Incentive Program") partly specializes in offering retired greyhounds for adoption. This page also has useful general information about the breed.


Labrador Retriever Rescue -- sponsored by the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac (Virginia, Maryland, D.C.).


The Pit Bull Press -- this site provides lots of good stories about individual Pit Bulls and lots of good general information about the breed.

Westie Rescue USA -- A very impressive Web site with a great deal of information on "lost & found" Westies. Among other things, one can use this Web site to report a missing Westie and/or find a list of Westies awaiting adoption. The site includes links to local and regional Westie rescue groups.


Kyler Laird's Animal Rescue Resources -- This has to be single best collection of links to animal shelters and breed rescue organizations available. If you don't find the resource you're looking for on this page, please, by all means, check this site out. It's frequently updated and extremely comprehensive.
