Wheel of Time CCGPeople have been talking for a long time about a Wheel of Time CCG based on the series of books by Robert Jordan. When I first heard talk of such, I posted the basics of this design to Usenet, as I felt it was the best possible simulation of the novels (I have read most of them). Now I have heard that someone has actually acquired the rights to do the game, so I am posting them here on my web page for the benefit of any such person. I hereby waive all rights to this game. PackagingPackaging is an important part of any CCG, and for the WoT CCG I suggest a rolling thunder style release with chase cards. That is, once the base game is out, mini-expansions should be released every other month. In each expansion should be about five cards that come maybe two or three to a box. The CardsThe most important thing about the cards for WoT is the art. It needs to be very high quality, without the non-realistic cards that often appeal to only a portion of the players. The art is so important that it should basically be the whole card, with only a small area at the top devoted to the title of the card. The initial release should be in 50 card starters and 15 card boosters. Game PlayThe game has four phases to each turn, and players alternate taking turns after randomly determining who goes first. The only limit to deck design is that you must have at least 60 cards in the deck, half of which must be from the latest expansion. At the start of the game, each player draws 8 cards into their hand. Draw PhaseDuring the draw phase, you draw one card from the top of the deck. If you have drawn the last card from your deck, shuffle your discard pile and place it face down on the table as your new deck. Action PhaseDo nothing. Discard PhaseDiscard one card from your hand into your discard pile. Be sure to declare which card it is, and give your opponent a chance to admire the artwork. End of Turn PhaseDeclare the end of your turn by stating one of the ways men and women are different from each other. Winning the GameThe game never ends. Just keep playing until you're sick of it, and go buy a George R. R. Martin or Robin Hobb book. |
