SHENANDOAH VALLEY GEM & MINERAL SOCIETY

Meeting – Monday, October 8, 7:30 pm at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren.

    Business - Further discussion of 2008 Gem Show items

    Program - Kelly Lane: Go West, Young Man (and Woman)

    Silent Auction – There have been some lovely specimens to bid on.  Remember that you may contribute specimens for the auction with the proceeds going into the club treasury.

Workshop - No workshop this month.  Let’s all plan to attend the grand opening of the
                  JMU Museum on October 13.  Remember to RSVP to Dr. Kearns by Oct. 8.

Field trip – None scheduled

VA Tech Sale of Minerals – VA Tech will be having a sale of surplus minerals and teaching aids on Friday, October 5, 3 – 6 pm and on Saturday, October 6, 8 am – 3 pm.  The sale will be held in Derring Hall, Room 2062.  Parking will be available in Lot SV which is off Perry Street.

At the September meeting
    We voted not to participate in Apple Days in October.  Paul Johnson will be reimbursed for the fee which he had already paid.
    Roland Stetler and Paul Johnson will co-chair the 2008 Gem Show.  Preliminary contacts have been made with the dealers and seven have expressed interest in the show.
    Paul Johnson will check with the Staunton and Waynesboro newspapers about listings of community events in which notices for our club meetings and gem shows could be placed.  Kelly Lane will prepare a simple flyer which can be handed out at other shows and places as appropriate.

Reminder:  The grand opening of the JMU Mineral Museum will be Saturday, October 13 at 11:30 am.  If you have not already done so, please let Dr. Kearns know that you plan to attend on or before October 8.  Email: kearnsle@jmu.edu or telephone 540-568-6130.
