AO-27
is a unique amateur satellite, because it runs in the FM mode, much like
terrestrial repeaters. Since it transmits on the 70 cm. amateur band, and
receives on the 2 meter amateur band, it is a satellite that can be used
by amateurs with entry level licenses, like myself. It can be used with
very basic equipment. Frequently, this is equipment that even a beginning
amateur may already own. ![]() As you can see from the photograph of me standing in the snow, talking over the longer distances covered by satellite can be quite addictive. I'm using the hand-held beam antenna from the Arrow corporation, although it is not an absolute necessity for "working" AO-27.
