Dichoy (Dick) Dong has been traveling and photographing for more than seventeen years. During the shooting of the United States photographs, Dick initially traveled in his car. . A skilled mechanic, he has supported himself and kept himself stocked with film by working on cars during his travels. He is the originator (as far as we know) of "exhaust manifold cooking." This is accomplished by lashing a closed can of soup or beans to the manifold and driving 75 to 100 miles.
      Dick's most recent travels have included Australia and Mexico. He recently visited here (Charlottesville, the location of the Dichoy Dong Fan Club) but without his usual car. All his recent travels have been accomplished by hitching and camping out as he goes. He is now convinced that hitching, in spite of the obvious disadvantages, affords the most interesting photographs. He finds he meets more interesting people and learns about more photographic opportunities on foot.
