"Frittering" is a masterpiece!
And a fairly easy one to copy, at least a basic guitar tab anyway. The rest of the album I'd consider a masterpiece as well, but I don't think I can play those (at least not without a tympani anyway).
I wonder if anyone would notice if I started a conversation with myself, and if I did would that prove schizophrenia, or merely the danger of it?
Is this a hypothetical question, or are you looking for clinical advice?
Whatever.
Wick-a, wick-a, wicky whack.
has anyone else got anything by the mercury theramin sextet?
Anyone know of any t-shirts in existance or if the rev is on tour?
I've got a Boces t-shirt, and I just this weekend saw the "Everrev" t-shirt design. I don't think either one, like their records, are in ready supply, certainly not through Sony/Columbia. You might want to try getting a hold of Big Cat Records (they have released a couple smaller rev releases). They might have something actually on hand.

mercury rev was 1 of the most amazing band in the whole world...til the pink floyd dark side of the moon attempt...icky...sorry...
(comentary) The best music i've ever heard Has been from the bands slowdive, skinny puppy, medicine, stereolab, the flaming lips and, of course, mercury rev. Now with slowdive, skinny puppy and medicine history, The flaming lips and srereolab both crumbling to their past masterworks, mercury rev is left holding the torch. If you guys are out there, pleeeease keep the engines going.
have some live recordings as well as looking for some. E-mail me!
Cellophane broke up! Waah! Agitpop is back together.
hey there. good luck with your MR page. I have an extra copy of a promotional Mercury Rev video compilation that I'm looking to sell or trade to anyone interested. It is a VHS tape sent by Sony/WORK Group to radio and music retail places in support of their last album. It is a three video collection, timing at approx. 14 mintues. Here are the videos: Young Man's Stride, Car Wash Hair, Chasing A Bee. If you or anyone you know might be interested please let me know.
thanks Mike
Hi there. Doers anyone know how I could get a hold of the song Car Wash Hair? I've been looking for it forever and can't find it anywhere...
I had the pleasure of seeing Mercury Rev at the Pearl Street club in Northampton, Mass. It was perhaps the most amazing club show I have ever been to. Before the band played, Grasshopper was sitting at the bar next to me and talking about a Sun Ra show that he had seen in NOHO some years earlier. There was maybe only about 50 people in the audience (including Suzanne Thorpe's dad!) that night, which made the whole scene pretty damn mellow and amazingly cool - we all just sat down on the floor in front of the stage like were all hanging out at someone's apartment. The only bad thing about about the experience was that they only played songs from "Yerself is Steam" and "See you on the Other Side" which was disappointing, since there are so many awesome tracks on "Boces."
Keith - "Car Wash Hair" is the hidden track at the end of Yerself Is Steam. I, too, have a Grasshopper-at-the-bar story. I saw MR when they opened for Hum at The Blind Pig in Champaign, Illinois. I was sitting at the bar when this moppy-haired guy came up next to me and ordered a beer. He didn't have any money on him and said he was in the band. The bartender gave him a hard time about the bands already having enough free beer. I recognized him and offered to buy him a beer. (Star struck?...sure, I'll admit it) Anyway, we hung out for about an hour before the show, talking about this and that. Interesting guy. Has anyone thought about turning this into a listserv (something like the Replacements/Skyway group)? I would, but I don't know the tech end of things. Just a thought...
Yeah, I have thought about turning this into a listserv/Liststar mail list. There is an easy way I could do it if there were enough interest in it, which means, let me know if you would be interested in me starting one. I didn't want to get it going if there wasn't going to be any traffic though. I will probably get one going in the next month or two anyway, but if people are psyched about it more, I could probably get an easy/cheesy one up sooner.

I don't have much to add. I am very keen on the above idea, whatever it is, simply because I am a rev sponge. Has anyone heard HarmonyRocket? It,s rev minus the Baker(of course). It's, well, one very looong instrumental consisting of Grasshoppers soundscapes and Suzannes slurry jazz mostly. It's a must for any Rev addict: IT WILL BLOW YOUR FREAKING MIND, or whats left of it anyway. I don't know where you can get it or if it can be ordered domesticly. I've only seen one copy. It is a cd that a friend of mine was lucky enough to snag at an overpriced, overrated record store in dallas called Bills records and tapes. they only had one copy and they charged him about $30-$40 for it. Good luck to anyone interested, or if you know of a place cheaper or more abundant let me know.
i have a custom designed video with 20 minutes of mercury rev's finest video efforts! the compilation includes the following in stereo-paragon sound!
1.car wash hair 2. chasing a bee 3. something for joey 4. bronx cheer 5.young mans stride
am looking to trade for live recordings, car wash hair 12" or cd single, or chasing a bee cd single. make me an offer i can't refuse!
HEY, DOES ANYONE KNOW THE QUICKEST AND EASIEST WAY TO GET IN CONTACT WITH THE BAND....? I'M CALLING FROM AUSTRALIA
Contacting the band is definitely not the easiest thing, especially as they are pretty reclusive as near as I can tell (I am typically one or two levels removed from direct contact with them).
My best suggestion would be to go to check their home page at Sony and see if they have a "leave a note for the artist" thing there, though I don't think they're too happy with Sony right now so that might not be a great deal of help either. Sorry for the none too encouraging info.

I'm looking to buy Mercury Rev singles excluding Everlasting Arm/DEad Man and also video. Please Help!
Harmony Rockets is available on Big Cat. I got a copy for twelve bucks in NY at a place called Other Music next to the big Tower Records Store. Brilliant 40 minute free form jazz/noise soundscape. Probably recorded under the name Harmony Rockets to avoid legal problems with Sony.
Last November when Merc Rev toured before they went on stage they had this strange recording of a dialouge between a girl and what sounded like that snake from the Disney's jungle book. Is there anybody out there who knows what it is and where i could find it. And also they released a while back a comp of singles and stuff on Beggars Banquet U.K. called lego my ego I believe if anybody has this will you please tell me where you can get it. Thanks
Lego my Ego was a limited record released with Yerself is Steam when it was re-released on beggers banquet... it wasn't released on its own. So unless you persuade the record co. to re-issue it you can't get it...
Does this fucking thing even work anymore?
We really need to get a listserv going. I have a pretty extensive collection, and am really just missing the 2 disc version of Yerself and the first 7" anyone have or want to trade? please, let's start a listserv...
hey everyone. i'm looking for any live recordings of MR, or any of the singles (well, i've got the everlasting arm single, and the Bronx Cheer single), whether copies or originals. i have no live MR to trade, but if anyone has any, i'll trade blanks, pay cash or trade early Pink Floyd or Phish boots. i've got about 25 tapes of Floyd, mostly from 66-72, and a couple 73-77. i've got about 40 tapes of Phish, and one of Velvet Underground as well. if anyone wants to trade, or can help me out, please e-mail me. by the way, if any of you aren't familiar with Syd Barrett (w/Floyd 66-68), or with King Black Acid and the Womb Star Orchestra, i'd suggest checking them out. take care
i came across a Yerself is Steam 2cd set, but instead of the Lego my Ego, i believe that the second cd is the Chasing a Bee single, though this was not listed anywhere on the discography of this page. Also, as noted above, if you like Frittering or other classic Rev, you should difinitely find King Black Acid and the Womb Star Orchestra, a Portland Oregon based band.
When I was in 7th grade I loved Rev. My science teachers brother was the bass player at the time. She got me a 6"x 4" signed poster for the release of YERSELF and the europeen tour. it has a big bee on it. jealous?
why did you create this? Are you a mutant?
i heard a viscious rumor the other day that MR has been dropped by their label and has since broken up. This may just be a rumor. But I do know that Dave Fridmann has begun a new band with Bill Whitten (St.Johnny) which he werked with David Baker on. For whoever that was looking for Lego My Ego i know it's on sale at a few record stores here around austin so i figure it can't be that difficult to find around, just keep an eye out in the vinyl sections it's impossible to find the dual CD set though. And the snake conversation bit that they played before the show on their last tour, my roomate knows what it was but he's not here right now so i'll keep you posted on that after i see him. And i'm sure most of you know but David Baker went on to start his ultra tripped out band SHADY if you have'nt heard it i definitely suggest it be your next purchase, he werks with alot of amazing artists on it, Sooyoung Park of (SEAM), Bill Whitten (St. johnny) , jimi shields (formerly of Rollerskate Skinny and more recently of Lotus Crown) and also his wife who is an incredible violinist, and many more great artists. Well i won't take up any more space. PIECE p.s. REVED, yes i'm jealous but i got my poster of BOCES signed by the whole band when i met them in oklahoma city along with the Flaming Lips....jealous?
fer all you people out on the east coast, mid west, and south all i've got to say is you lucky bastards. I just went the other day to their sony site and the tour dates were posted as most always they're not commin' to L.A. what a damn pity too
I pity you. anyone interested in any thing rev related should check out www.mhv.net/~kerzhan/hopewell.html j russo dave fridmansbassfillin and harmony rockets guitarist fronts this upper mid hudson valley band i have seen this act and it is truley strange.
Tell me who's right...luxintryr or me. The tour dates listed at the sony sight are for the last tour, right? If MR are on tour again, somebody direct me to upcoming tour dates. ps. Any word on that vicious rumor?
gawd, i'm so glad this site + this "chatspace" exists. thank you, bpaton. i don't have much to mention to the current threads, but i thought some of y'all might be interested in a page i am running that is devoted to BRAD LANER (ex-MEDICINE). he's about to re-emerge on a major label with a new band (amnesia)...andthis year played on an album that also featured Suzanne and Grashopper. the site is located at www.cinenet.net:80/users/jaybab/brad.html
saw the rev at finsbury park, three years ago near the bottom of the bill for a concert which was to be the last for the cult. If i remember correctly, they came on after pearl jam, there second ever apperance in england, and were shit hot. basically it was really funny as the majority of the crowd were not sure what had hit them, me , i was awestruck, Chasing a bee, surperb. I will always remember that day!
so what exactly is a tettix wave accumulator anyway? Also, check out the ever changing bastard son of Rev,Hopewell.Boy,are they loud.

Rumor has it that Grasshopper will be/is working on a new record.
Anyone know the circumstances of MR getting kicked off Lollapaloser? I saw them early on that tour and they were the best thing there, the audience watched paralized by the music. That was Des Moines, IA.
i still have'nt heard any werd on the rumor that they broke up but it is looking as if all the members are doing there own thing. Dave Fridmann w/ Grand Mal, and someone said sumthin about Grasshopper werkin on sumthin new. Benche Asse, yer question about the Tettix Wave Accumulator, actually i met Grasshopper at one of their shows and that was one of the first questions i asked him, it's actually an invention he made which he said was too large to tour with. He did'nt explain it too much. Barry, in regards to yer question about why they were kicked off Lolapalooza, the truth is they were too loud on the small stage and their sound overpowered the main stage band and the sound man pulled the plug on them. After that i think they were pretty pissed and quit the whole thing alltogether. Chris S, yer right those tour dates are from last year, i see no tour for them in the near future. But hey, we can hope. Oh yeah if anyone is interested in what David Baker has been doing in his spare time, he just produced an incredible album with a band from Denton, TX called Comet, i suggest you check them out, they're album was just recently released called "Chandelier Musings". And if you like it you should definitly check into the Denton music scene, it's a small town outside of Dallas w/ the largest amount of incredible bands per capita in the werld. Enjoy! Adios
Sony music web page has tour dates that I beleive are for Winter '97. Anyway, one tour date is for Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC (close to home)for Feb, 19th. This date was confirmed by the Cradle's schedule on their home page. It says they will be appearing with Hum and Jennyanykind. I don't know about the rumours about the Rev breaking up, but this is pretty substantial evidence that they are on tour this coming Winter. I could only hope against hope there is a new CD on the way. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.
