Who/What is Bob Johnson you might ask? Well, Bob Johnson is this band that
two of my friends (Keith
Kirssin and Greg Feller) and I
have decided to form. Important Note: I said "form," not necessarily
practice, or actually play together that often, but that might eventually
change (I hope). In the meantime, we suck. Below is a more value-neutral
description of the band.
- Keith Kirssin:
guitarist, drinker of beer, and foosball champion.
- Greg Feller: bass player, smoker of herb, and lover of nature (even
bugs). Oh, yeah, he's also our lead singer and currently principal songwriter.
- Brad Paton: drummer
(sort of), resident crab (not really), and foosball understudy (I hit the
ball really hard!). Oh, that's me. No, this
is really me. The blond that is ;-)
Here's the songs currently in our rehearsal list:
- Hank Williams--"Lost Highway"
- The Boo Radleys--"Does this Hurt?"
- The Darling Buds--"If"
- Poster Children--"He's My Star"
- Reverend Horton Heat--"Love Whip"
- Uncle Tupelo--"Factory Belt"
- Uncle Tupelo--"No Depression"
- Son Volt/Ron Wood--"Mystifies Me"
- Beastie Boys--"Gratitude"
- My Bloody Valentine--"Sometimes"
- Them (with Van Morrison)--"Baby Please Don't Go"
- Pixies--"Debaser"
- Pixies--"Here Comes Your Man"
- Breeders--"I Just Wanna Get Along"
- Breeders--"Cannonball"
- Joy Division--"Transmission"
- Violent Femmes--"Prove My Love"
- Husker Du--"Never Talking To You Again"
We've actually played in front of people four times to date, twice at parties
that we hosted. Both parties that we pretty much supplied a lot of alcohol
to friends at. The first was in December, and the next was in March.
The set lists are linked in the HREFs. (just so I'll remember them because
the first one in particular I only know we played a couple songs because
they're on tape and the other people in the band told me we did).
We also played twice elsewhere in public. Once on Saturday,
May 4, here in Sunny Charlottesville, VA, at a little sushi restaurant
called the Tokyo Rose. We even played mostly originals, and it seemed to
be fairly well received. The other time was at a party
in Arlington, VA, with five beautiful hosts and a buttload of their
less-beautiful friends. Actually, it was good to have such a cold reception
fairly early, cause now we get to figure out how to deal with it, though
it would be interesting to say that we've never played in front of a hostile/indifferent
audience. Any suggestions? Brad's a dork
Here's a flyer for a show we did.
