In Memory of the Deceased Members of the South Boston Fire Company
December 18, 1999

Within our firehouse throughout the years
We have had a lot of good times, friendship and tears.

The ones who were here before youngsters like me
Are still with us now as we crawl on our knees.

When we have a fire on the first floor
They are there to meet us at the front door.

Whether working in a basement or on the roof so high
They look down upon us from up in the sky.

Before they went to heaven with the angels to sing
They would take the new guys under their wing.

When they were called out, no matter what time
They were the best in the business, on the trucks or the line.

Regardless of weather, sunshine or snow
When the sirens rang out they were ready to go.

With only long coats and boots to the thigh
They gave their all before they said goodbye.

Sometimes sacrificing time with family and friends
I bet if they had a chance they would do it all again.

We know they watch over us every step of the way
And we should think of them at least once a day.

They started out young and fought until they were old
Now they are stationed in heaven, with a helmet of gold.

I think what we would really like to do
Is have a chance to tell them, just a simple

Thank you....
