The Maui Invitational Pairings are in. Virginia opens against South Carolina in the only NON-televised game in the first round. Hopefully Prime or somebody else will pick up the game, but for now a big BRONX CHEER for ESPN!
The schedule is in! The exhibition games will be very good this year, as the Australian National Team is a tough team, and always provides a high level of competition for the college teams. The Court Authority is a Richmond area team of older players. They do not have great size or quickness, but they play very intelligent basketball, and capitalize on all mistakes.
After that, the Cavs go to Maui where they will play in the Maui Invitational along with Cal, Chaminade, Iowa, Kansas, LSU, UMass, and South Carolina. A couple of in-state cream puffs then it is on to Clemson, for an early conference game. The UVA students will have to get interested in basketball early this year!
Is the schedule maker Scrooge, or Santa Claus? December 23 is another visit to UConn. The Huskies lost a lot, but they return a lot. After two embarrassments in a row, I'm not sure I can handle another UConn game. Either it will ruin Christmas, or it will give the Hoos a chance to avenge past humiliations.
One reader wrote in with some valid concerns regarding UVA's scheduling policies. Click on the link for that reader's opinion, with which HOOpS concurs nearly 100%
