Post-Reading Activities

Post-reading activities provide students with a way of summarizing and reinforcing what they have read. These activities also provide teachers with a means of assessing students' comprehension.

Examples of post-reading activities:

Travel brochure.

Mini-book or picture book summarizing the main ideas found in a text.

Story board with pictures from the site and student descriptions of the pictures.

Group mural.

Diary written from the perspective of the person they read about at the site.

Email questions to the author of the site.

Dramatize a scene from the site to share with the class.

Newsletter or newspaper using the Who? What? When? Where? Why? or How? format.

Assign each student a different section of the site to report on.

Time line of events using pictures from the site.

Create cartoons using Kid Pix or another paint program.

Make a poster that advertises the site and explains why people should visit it.

Be a TV or radio reporter, and give a report of a scene from the site as if it is happening "live."

Create a map of the site, highlighting important sections.

Create a postcard illustrating a favorite part of a site.

Create a worksheet study guide for other students to use when visiting the site.

This site features lessons that require students to go to a site, read the content, and answer questions. These lessons were created to fulfill a particular unit's objectives. Some lessons take more than one day to complete.
