Darden Towe Park's New Off-leash Exercise Area

"I can finally let my human off his leash to play fetch", said one canine.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 2001, local canines rejoiced at Darden Towe Park at the unveiling of the newly created off-leash exercise area.  No longer must dogs resort to being chauffered to Azalea Park or Riverview Park/Rivanna Greenbelt to let their Significant Human Others legally off leash and run around.  Darden Towe's fenced-in area is much larger than Azalea Park and includes a faucet for drinking water (sorry, the Parks and Rec budget could not afford any outdoor, all-weather toilet bowls).

Local animal organizations set up displays and put up animals for adoption, including the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, Animal Connections/Louisa County Animal Shelter, and the Fluvanna SPCA.  Demonstrations were given for agility and obedience training as well as by the Service Dogs of Virginia.  Prizes were given away in mid-afternoon.
